Linksys WRT600N Wireless Router Slow…

2008 June 13

Ok, so I’m gonna take a break from my regular blogging on doctrine and theology and bring up a wireless problem that I’m having in the hopes that someone will pipe up and give me some help.

I just bought a Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop with the infamous Intel 4965AGN network mini card installed and I also bought a Linksys WRT600N Dual Band Gigabit router to go with it.  Does anyone have a configuration like this?  The router is supposed to support 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz bands using the “N” band and get speeds up to 270 Mbps…  I have not been able to get that anywhere in my home.  The highest that I’ve gotten on the 5 Ghz band is about 121-130 Mbps.  Average is about 80 Mbps.  Does anyone have a similar issue with this configuration?  I’m sure I have to configure it somehow to max it out but I’m a newbie when it comes to wireless internet.  (It’s my first laptop and router.)

Any helpful hints would be greatly appreciated!
